

HUBERT LEE MAUPIN, JR., 76, of Memphis, TN, died April 11, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on April 29, 1934 in Bristol, TN. Lee earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. After graduating from college, he was a Claims Representative for American Mutual Insurance Company and in 1965, he opened an office as Manager for Protective Life Insurance Company in Nashville, TN. He joined Cook Industries in Memphis, TN in 1972 as Employee Benefits Manager. Lee retained this position (through several mergers) retiring in 2002 from Service Master International. At the time of his death, Lee was active in All Saints Episcopal Church in Memphis, TN and a member of the Racquet Club of Memphis. Lee enjoyed life, loved to dance with his wife, Lona, and was appointed “King of the Racquet Club” at a Kings and Queens Gala in 2006 in appreciation for his participation and support of club events. He enjoyed the title of being”King”. Lee was also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and past president of the West Nashville Jaycees. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lona Beckham Maupin; his son, Hubert Lee Maupin III and his wife, Glenda Paige Maupin of Bartlett, TN; his daughter, Elizabeth Denise Holmes of Honolulu, HI; four grandchildren, Jessica Maupin, Erik Spangler and Zachary Maupin of Bartlett, TN, and Skylar Tippit and his wife, Patricia Nelson Tippit of St. Louis, MO; and three great-grandchildren, Penny, Logan and Maya. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vivian Marie Maupin and his parents, Hubert Lee Maupin, Sr. and Eunice McLean Maupin. Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN on April 13 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Memphis, 1508 South White Station Road on April 14 at 10 a.m. Burial in Memorial Gardens, formerly Memory Hill Gardens.
