October 2, 1929 – September 4, 2026
Earnest Elmore, Jr. passed away peacefully at the Shepherd Hospice facility surrounded by family on September 4, 2026 and went to his heavenly home. He was born on October 2, 1929 in Frog Jump, TN to James Earnest Elmore, Sr. and Myrtle Florell Elmore. Earnest’s life spanned 96 wonderful years, all filled with devotion to the Lord and his loved ones.
Earnest was a graduate of Crockett County High School and then went on to Draughon’s Business College where he received a degree in business. He was a purchasing agent for several businesses, but most notably Memphis Furniture & Manufacturing Co. Through the years he was also a Deacon and Elder for East Frayser Church of Christ. After moving to Cordova, TN in 1994, he and his wife joined Germantown Church of Christ where they were faithful members for many years. Just recently he and his wife moved into an assisted living facility in Hernando, MS where they could be closer to family and made new friends.
Earnest loved spending time with his family, bowling, gardening, hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, the outdoors, reading his Bible, and most of all going to Church to worship. He also loved to collect various pocket knives which he proudly displayed in a case in their home.
Earnest is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vera Elmore; his daughter Venita E. Stokes of Marietta, GA; his daughter Stephanie A. Dale (Richard) of Hernando, MS; his treasured grandchildren Christy Keaton (Darrin) of Marietta, GA, Daniel Wilson of Marietta, GA, Allison Napier (Hunter), James A. Dale (Haleigh) of Hernando, MS, Bradley C. Dale of Hernando, MS, and 3 wonderful great-grandchildren.

Elmore, Sr. and Myrtle Florell Elmore, his precious brother and sister ~~ Bruce Elmore who died in WWII, and Mary Sue London.
To honor and celebrate Earnest’s life and legacy, family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Garden located at 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Service will be at 1:00 pm with burial following at 2:00 pm.
Earnest was a strong man and those who know him will remember a wonderful Christian man who loves the Lord, who is a great example to many, a man who is loving, compassionate, humble, kind, a mentor and just a genuine man who loved his Lord, family, and friends deeply. His memory will live on in all those he was blessed to know, but will be sorely missed.
