He was born to the late James and Clarice Herndon on October 23rd, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio. James and Judy were high school sweethearts while in band together at Kingsbury High School. He became a Master Electrician in the late 80s and retired from TVA as Maintenance Coordinator after 33 years. He played hockey with his brother Tim until he was 40. He was an avid sports fan favoring the St. Louis Cardinals and the Ole Miss Rebels. He was always involved with his children and a “band dad” to every kid. He helped his grandson with Trap, baseball, and football. He enjoyed camping and traveling with Judy and his family.
James is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Herndon; his children, Douglas Herndon (Brian), Amanda Smith (Michael), Susan Deming (Currie); his grandchildren, Preston Herndon, Madison Smith; his brother, Timothy Herndon (Charleane); and his German Shepherd, Gunner.
Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Monday, December 21st at Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N. Germantown Pkwy, Bartlett, TN 38133. Services will follow at 2:00pm. Burial will be at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange, Memphis, TN.
