Jim was born October 10, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Milton Howard and Janie Lee Weaver Palmer. He graduated from Treadwell High School, where he lettered in golf; he went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Memphis State University (University of Memphis). Jim served his country in the United States Navy and worked most of his career as a CPA. Later in life, he graduated from Memphis School of Preaching and served as a full-time minister and elder for two years at Centerview church of Christ in Elizabethton, Tennessee. In addition, he served as an instructor at the Tri Cities School of Preaching. After returning to Memphis, Jim preached at the Whiteville church of Christ in Whiteville, TN for 5 years before retiring. Jim’s greatest desire was to teach others the Gospel plan of salvation. He was a faithful member of the Cordova church of Christ, and served as an elder for a number of years. He was also an avid golfer and a Memphis Tiger fan.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra Elaine Serio Palmer; son, James Michael Palmer (Cindy Palmer); daughter, Sally Carver (Scott Carver); five grandchildren, Shelby Palmer, Albany Palmer, Mia Palmer, Adia Cain, and Amelia Carver.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 5 – 7 pm at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 2 pm. A burial with United States Navy honors will follow the service in Memorial Gardens.
