A few days ago, we lost a precious lady. Janice Ann Hamilton was born to Mary Frances and Arthur M. Gibson on May 7,1941 in Beech Bluff but spent most of her life in Memphis, Tennessee. She was the youngest of six siblings, Velma, Fred, Margaret, Eva, and Roy. She graduated from Southside High School and then a local business college before marrying William Victor Hamilton in 1962. She was a faithful member of Merton Avenue Baptist Church in the Binghamton area where she worked in the nursery, taught vacation Bible School, and sang in the choir. Later she and Bill moved their membership to Bellevue Baptist Church where she worked alongside her husband in leading an adult Sunday school class.
Janice worked part time as an assistant resident manager for an apartment complex before going to work at Marx & Bensdorf Real Estate Company where she worked for almost 20 years. Her favorite job, however, was as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Hamilton passed away peacefully on January 8,2025 after suffering many years from Alzheimer’s.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William (Bill) Hamilton, and her grandson, William Lucas Hodges. She is survived by her daughters Sherry (Curtis) Moody and Chris (Scott) Steele; and grandchildren Landon Hodges, and Jessie and Tommy Steele.
Janice loved to laugh and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. It was ridiculously hard not to love her, and the world is a little sadder without her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Paige-Robbins Adult Day Center, Collierville, TN or Abandoned to Adored: Animal Shelter and Rescue, Holly Springs MS, in her memory.
