

Born to Mary (Hood) and Ezra Elrod in 1937 in Gainesville, Georgia, she was one of nine children. She met Rufus Ivan Jones in 1957 and they married on New Year’s Day 1960. In the late sixties, Janice and Ivan moved their young family from Georgia to Memphis. Initially, Janice devoted her time to raising her children. Later, she started working for the Financial Services division at Baptist Memorial Hospital and retired after 21 years.
While in Memphis, Janice and Ivan were active members of Broadway Baptist church and Kirby Woods Baptist church for 50 years, where they served in various ministries. After Ivan passed away, Janice moved to Hendersonville to be near her children and grandchildren. While there, she was a devoted member of First Baptist Hendersonville.
A committed Christian, Janice would talk with and befriend anyone and showed love to all she knew. At her retirement center, she was chosen to be an ambassador to greet and befriend new residents. She will be remembered for her lifelong dedication and generous giving of her time to her family and friends.
Janice was preceded in death by Ivan, her beloved husband of 58 years. She is survived by her three children Ivy (Paul) Parham , Brad (Nicole) Jones, and Jeff (Katherine) Jones as well as five grandchildren Jennifer (Justin) Moss, Matthew Jones, Mia Jones, Christian Jones and Chloe Jones. She also leaves her many family members in Georgia.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 6th from 5-7 pm at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN. with the funeral service following on Friday, November 7th at 10 am.
Memorials may be sent to the Neighborhood Christian Center or Calvary Rescue Mission, both of Memphis, Tennessee.
