Ms. Jean Smith Tugwell

1934 - 2026

Jean Tugwell passed away at her home on June 27th at the age of 91. She was born October 21, 1934. She was a graduate of Hamburg High School in Hamburg, Arkansas. After that she attended business school.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Jamie Tugwell, her parents, Ernest and Julia Smith, her brother, Bobby Smith, and a

stepson, Chris Tugwell.

Jean is survived by her step children -Nina L. Patton (Jerry) and Wesley Tugwell (Teresa). She leaves four step grandchildren : Randy Patton (Michelle), Lori Patton (Rhonda), Angela Sanfratello (Johnie),and Wes Tugwell. She leaves six step great grandchildren: Erin Harris (Zeke), Noah Patton, Johnie, Austin, and Joshua Sanfratello, and Megan Burns (Grant). She also leaves her great great grandchildren, Lane Harris and Bentley Burns . She is survived by nephew Jerry Smith (Kim) and nieces Linda Turney (Jim) and Patricia Williams (George).

Jean’s early career was in accounting for GMAC. Later she was involved in the family business, Tugwell Oil Company. She was a long time member of Kingsway Christian Church. She was also a member of The King’s Daughters and Sons national/state/local organizations. Her membership and involvement in Harmony Circle dates back to 1973. During that time she held offices and participated on several committees.

The family of Jean extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their prayers, love and support during this difficult time.

We especially are thankful for her daily caregivers.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens - 3700 N. Germantown Pkwy., Bartlett, Tn. 38133.

Following the service there will be a reception in the funeral home.
