

Jerry Stamson, Jr., who for thirty years owned and operated the Barksdale Restaurant at 237 Cooper Street, died December 15. Born in Memphis on October 23, 1948, he was the third of four children of the late Jerry and Wilma Stamson. His father was born Gerasimos Stamatellos in Lefkas, Greece and married Wilma Garner, a native of Holly Springs, in Marion, Arkansas in 1937.
A 1967 Trezevant High School graduate, Stamson was the lead singer of a garage rock band called the Crackerjacks. He loved singing Elvis songs, fishing, and playing cards with his Greek buddies on Sunday nights. Jerry had a very unique personality and sense of humor that his friends and family loved most about him.
In addition to his work at the Barksdale, Jerry was an employee of Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk and was also a candidate in two local elections.
Jerry was a member of the Spero J. Zepatos AHEPA Chapter #7 and of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
Surviving are Pandora, wife of 28 years; daughter Heather Stamson Rout and her husband Rick, of Collierville; son Jerry Joseph Stamson and his wife Tiffany, of St. Louis; sisters Angie Baker and Helen Wheeler of Memphis; brother Steve Stamson and his wife Debbie; grandchildren Erica Morgan, Kennedy Gorman, Wil Rout, Gracie Rout, Curtis Stamson, Jaxon Stamson; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 12 PM, Saturday, December 20, at Annunciation Church, 573 N. Highland Avenue. Visitation will be 10:30am-12:00pm at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN 38133.
