Born in Memphis, TN on April 29, 1933, moved peacefully to her final resting place in heaven on May 30, 2014. Our mother was preceded in death by her parents, James Earl and Inez Rast, siblings Phil Rast, Mickey Walker, and Mary Helen Gregory, and her best friend and soul mate Frederick J McGoff Sr. Joann attended St. Thomas High School where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class. Joann worked in the home but was also employed part time by the Memphis Police Department and Sears Department Store, back in the 1960’s. Joann’s pride and joy were here 6 children, and 7 if you count Daddy, because everyone who knew them, said she was raising Daddy too. Joann worked part time jobs so that her children were given every opportunity to attend private schools.
Joann was a deeply religious person and supported the church in every way possible. She played the organ for many church services over the period of 25 years. She was also an excellent singer. She enjoyed both of those activities tremendously.
Joann was a one of a kind person. The kind of person everyone wanted to be like. Pleasant, soft hearted, and kind. Stern and fair as she raised her children. Sincere, honest, and trustworthy. She was an exceptional leader. A Friend to everyone. Completely unselfish. A dedicated mother who made many sacrifices, all in the best interest of her family. Joann was an example of everything good in life and this is what her family will carry on in their own lives. We will miss her dearly but will talk to her every day in prayer. We were truly blessed to have been a part of Joann’s life and look forward to the day we can join her in heaven.
Joann is survived by 6 children, Fred J. McGoff Jr. (Cheryl), Jim McGoff, Tommy McGoff (Charla), Becky McGoff Webb (Kim), Kathy McGoff Cargile (Larry), and Margaret McGoff Stanfill (Dennis). She also leaves 11 grandchildren. Lindsey and Joey McGoff, Mallory, Lauren, and Justine McGoff, Taylor Webb, Mitch, Caley, and Allie Cargile, Ashley and Amber Stanfill. The McGoff family will receive family and friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday June 2 at Memphis Funeral Home located at 3700 North Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. They will have a celebratory mass on Tuesday June 3 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church beginning at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
