He was born to the late Francis and Levetta Hall on December 1st, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Dianne Hall.
John graduated from Memphis Technical High school and attended Memphis State University. He graduated State Technical Institute at Memphis with two Associate Degrees with honors and high honors. He retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer and retired from the Tennessee Department of Health and the Memphis Shelby County Health Department. John was a long time active member of Central Baptist Church and served in many roles as a testimonial to his commitment to Christ.
John was a dedicated donor to Life Blood, with over 11 gallons given. He served one term as District 98 Representative on the Shelby County Republican Steering Committee, member of the Memphis Calligraphy Guild for several years, serving as Guild’s President for one term. He also worked as a volunteer Shelby County Election Commission Poll Worker for several elections cycles.
Besides his love for well-crafted lettering and artistic design, he found rest and relaxation in acrylic painting, and writing poetry, and prose. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. That was a high priority for John. He loved praying with the hospital staff and ER patients on those occasions when he was a patient too.
John is survived by his children, John Andrew Hall (Tricia), Gregory Wayne Hall, Jennifer Dianne Hill (Clarence); his grandchildren, Chase Hall, Aaliyah Hall, Cohen Hall, Presley Hall, Jackson Hill, and Neva Hill; his siblings, James Hall (Patsy), Carol Davis, Jerry Hall (Diane); brother in law, Wayne Tidwell (Susan); sister in law, Diedra Tidwell; eight nephews and nieces.
Family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:00am on Friday, February 17th at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN.
