John Vincent Lauderdale (68), a lifelong resident of Memphis, Tennessee and more recently of Hernando, Mississippi, passed away on January 24th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He maintained an especially positive attitude despite his long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. John was born on December 13, 1955 in Memphis, Tennessee to Dr. Frank “Jack” Munford Lauderdale and Mary Augusta Lauderdale. John graduated from Christian Brothers High School and Memphis State University where he met the love of his life and forever-best friend, Carol Harris and the two were married for 41 wonderful years. They have two precious daughters, Erika and Kelsey who were John’s greatest joy.
John devoted his career to accounting and finance at Jimmy Gray Chevrolet for thirty years, where he found great friendship. He had a passion for the outdoors and cultivated that through his involvement in Boy Scouts of America in his youth and then later in life by serving on the Board of Old Kia Kima Preservation Association. Ever the Boy Scout, John took great pride in always being prepared with his gadgets and tools. He had a love for information and he always impressed with his deep knowledge of trivia, especially music trivia. John was an avid Tennessee Vols fan. He could truly talk to anyone and never met a stranger. His “sister-friends and brother-friends” from youth will forever hold him in their hearts and the years of gathering, house boating, camping, and traveling together provided us all with great memories.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Frank “Jack” Lauderdale and Mary Augusta Lauderdale, his grandmother, Frances Lauderdale, and his aunt, Mary Ann Lauderdale. He leaves behind his devoted wife Carol, two precious daughters, Erika (Kyle) and Kelsey Wilson (Nick) and his loving mother in law, Sue Weatherly. He is also survived by his sisters Annabelle Daniel and Marsha Ewing, and his nephews, Trent Daniel, Trevor Daniel, and Matt Ewing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be sent to Old Kia Kima Preservation Association, Attention: Dennis Cain, President, at 9210 McCreight Drive, Millington, TN 38053.
