Born on August 18, 1967, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Jon was the eldest son of John and Emma Conroy. As the son of a Navy family, he spent his childhood in several places before graduating from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois.
Jon was adventurous, especially as a child, and he loved to play outside. Throughout his life, he worked primarily in landscaping and construction. He was mechanically inclined and known for his physical strength. He also had a great sense of humor and an ability to make people laugh. Those who knew him best also remember his caring heart and his desire to help others, particularly those whom he felt needed support and protection.
Like many people, Jon faced significant personal challenges throughout his life. Despite those struggles, he remained deeply connected to the people he loved, and he was loved in return by family members and friends who continued to care about him throughout his journey.
Jon is survived by his parents, John Francis Conroy and Emma Hannah Conroy; his son, Kyle Free; his grandson, Christian; his sisters, Paula (Keith) Yochum, Kristen (Donnie) Spence, and Kerry Conroy; his brother, Aaron (Sarah) Conroy; his dear friend and companion, Sherry Kelly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, a great-niece, a great-nephew, extended family members, and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10 am at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, Tennessee, followed by a memorial Mass at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (https://svdpmemphis.org/).
The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff who cared for Jon during his final days.
