Joseph Armstrong Carnathan, age 91, resident of Cordova and husband of Margaret Marie Howell Carnathan, departed this life Sunday morning, August 22nd, 2021 at his residence the day after their 67th wedding anniversary.
Mr. Carnathan was born November 7th, 1929 in Fayette County. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Marie Howell Carnathan and daughter Jo Alice Carnathan O’Neal (Greg). He is also survived by his sister Billie Jean Canada and sister in law Maxine Carnathan.
He was preceded in death by his sibilings, Mary Alice Sain and Clovis V. Carnathan.
The Carnathans were also greatly loved by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family along with their “honorary daughters”. Mr. Carnathan was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War conflict and was employed at Buckeye Cellulose Corporation subsidiary of Proctor & Gamble for 42 years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, traveling internationally and domestically, listening to country music, cars, and just being “on the road again”.
The family would like to thank Methodist Hospice for the care they took with Mr. Carnathan.
Family will receive friends from 9:00am to 10:00am on Thursday, August 26th at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 10:00am.
