Joseph David “Joe” Goss, 63, of Bartlett, died suddenly at home Monday night. He leaves his wife of 38 years, GlynnAnn Comfort Goss, their daughter Marlee Erin Goss (John Booker), his mother Kathryn Hanson Goss, and his brother Leonard Lee Goss, Jr. (Glenda). He was preceded in death by his father Leonard Lee Goss, Sr.
He graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was a member of the American Chemical Society. Employed at the time of his death as a chemist at Merck Consumer Care, he had spent almost 30 years at Merck (formerly Schering-Plough).
A dedicated Christian, Joe was a longtime faithful member of First Evangelical Church, which gave him great joy. He was never happier than with a fishing pole in his hand, and also loved classical music and old movies, especially Casablanca. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame football. Always ready with a joke, he made everyone laugh with his ironic sense of humor.
Family and friends will gather this evening, Saturday, August 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at First Evangelical Church with interment to follow in Memphis Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Thru the Bible Radio or the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
