Joseph Petrie

Gunnery Sergeant Joseph Ernst Petrie, USMC Retired (Gunny), 51, passed away November 28, 2011. The high- light of his career was his time as Acting Sergeant Major HMX Quantico, VA. Other service duties included Crash Fire Rescue at NAS Memphis, Millington, TN and Goodfellow DOD Fire Rescue at Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, TX. Joseph earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Information Technology and Instructor of Technology and Military Science. He also received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps he worked in IT for Sitel, VP Buildings and Mueller before settling at Ensafe, Inc. in 2005 as the MIS Manager. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Susan Marie (Pullion); a son, Joseph Ernst Petrie, Jr., his wife, Catherine, their children, Alexander Doss and Abigail Ann-Marie; a daughter, Victoria Lee (Petrie) Smith, her husband, Richard Scott Smith, Jr.; a brother, John Francis Petrie III, his wife, Claudia Rae, their children Heather Rae, Nicole Marie and 2nd. Lt. Stacey Ann Petrie, USMCR; his father, John Francis Petrie, Jr. and mother, Roberta Lee (Richardson). He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles and cousins and his extended military family. A public viewing will be held Thursday, December 1, from 6-8 p.m. and a memorial service will be on Friday, December 2, at 10 a.m. both at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 3700 N. Germantown Road Bartlett, TN 38133.
