Josh Drew was our class clown. However, his humor often came with sarcasm which could really get under my skin. My dad lived one street over, so when I visited him, Josh Drew and I along with others often road bikes or roamed the neighborhood until he was old enough to drive. My first cruise around town in a convertible was in his Mustang, but I don't think he was driving. Actually, I don't remember a time that he drove his own car. When I picture him, I see the white shell necklace he used to wear along with Hawaiian floral print shirts, a fad that he may have even started. Josh Drew was popular throughout middle school and high school, but I never was. Yet, he never treated me as less of a person. He was special because he didn't belong to just one clique or group, he belonged to everyone. With the news of his passing, I can't help but be reminded of the lyrics of a song the Covington High School Choir sang at our graduation ceremony: "And I'll take with me the memories, to be my sunshine after the rain, it's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday."
