Judith "Judy" Thweatt Bryant, 76, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on March 28, 2024. She was born on September 27, 1947, in Memphis, TN. Judy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her son Scott Bourland (Vickie), grandsons Justin Bourland and Kyle Bourland (Laura), stepson William Bryant (Joanne), step grandsons Elliott Bryant, and Ian Bryant, and her sister Donna Hollaway (Rex). Judy was preceded in death by her husband Stan Bryant, parents Lonnie and Augusta Thweatt, brother Ray Thweatt, and brother Lonnie Thweatt.
Judy graduated from East High School in 1965. She received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in education from the University of Memphis. Judy was a proud and devoted teacher who dedicated 30 years to Memphis City Schools. She taught 4th grade at Shannon Elementary, Coleman Elementary, and Cordova Elementary before transitioning to the Teaching and Learning Academy, where she supervised new teacher training and curriculum development. Judy's passion for education touched the lives of many students and colleagues throughout her career.
Judy accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age and lived her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6. She and Stan enjoyed traveling the world and truly had the gift of hospitality, hosting many gatherings for family and friends. Judy cherished her family and had a special love for her son, grandsons, and siblings. Judy and Stan took Justin and Kyle on annual trips of their choosing. These trips taught these cherished grandsons many skills about how to move through life with curiosity and confidence. Judy had a lifelong passion for reading, college football and children, always taking the time to engage with young ones she encountered.
A memorial service for Judy will be held at 10:00 A.M. on April 13 preceded by visitation at 9:00 at Memphis Funeral and Memorial Gardens located at 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
