Kelly Lee Rector was born on October 11, 1968, in unity of Sandra Elaine Higley Rector and William C. Rector in Memphis, Tennessee. Kelly was raised in Collierville, Tennessee where he attended public school districts throughout his childhood and young adolescence. He was a resident and honorable citizen of Oakland, Tennessee for 27 years. During that time, Kelly supported the community as an Alderman for the City of Oakland for eight years. Throughout his life as a mechanic, Kelly was a dedicated employee for Schilling of Memphis, Tennessee; Wolfchase – Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Dealership of Bartlett, TN; and Gateway Tire and Service Center for 12 years.

Kelly was an astonishing man to have in one’s life. Devoted father, loyal friend, and intelligent man of all work, Kelly was known as one of a kind. In his spare time, Kelly enjoyed being outdoors - fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his family and children. He had a passion for many hobbies throughout his time: riding trails at Sugar Creek, out of town weekend retreats, barbeque and chili competitions, tractor pulling and so much more. Always willing to lend a helping hand and words of wisdom, Kelly had a unique, selfless ability to help and care for others. He may have had an abundance of friends; however, those friends were family in his eyes and were held close to his heart.

Kelly peacefully departed from this life Saturday, October 16th, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He is survived by his two children, Kaileigh Rhea Rector and William “Kolby” Rector of Fayette County, Tennessee; their mother Kristy Martindale Rector; along with special recognition of someone who loved and cared for him dearly, Melissa Crowe Roberts; siblings, JR Rector (Mykle Rector) and Monica Rainey; nephews, Matthew Rainey and Alex Rector, and niece Krista Rainey. Kelly was preceded in passing by his mother and father, Sandra Elaine Higley Rector and William C. Rector; grandparents, Earl E. Higley and Nida Pamplin, Howard C. Rector and Jessie L. Statum; aunts and uncles, Thelma Pate, Roland Higley, Charles Higley, and Nettie McCummber.

A visitation for Kelly will be on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.

It has taken some time to know what to say about Kelly, so many things come to mind. I want to express what I still see from Kelly. I see his kindness and tenderness in is daughter Kaileigh. I see his playfulness in his son Kolby, who is his dad’s spitting image. I see his free-spoken way in his sister Monica. I see his extraordinary goodness in his brother, my husband JR. I know about his love of life from his children, siblings, his girlfriend Melissa and all who loved and knew him truly. Above all these, his strength and love have shown through all who have lost the most with his passing. Until we see you again brother...❤️

Dear Kayleigh and Kolby,
We want you to know we have fond memories of your dad. He was our mechanic a few times and we trusted him totally with our car. We were so happy when he ran for Alderman and won. He helped with the decisions for Oakland. Our hearts go out to you both. You will never get over this but you will get through it. Prayers for you both.

Kaileigh and Kolby,

Everything that y’all have done for your dad is simply amazing! Y’all both have been so strong in this and y’all are such strong people. I know your Dad “kelly” would absolutely love and adore everything y’all have done for him, and say that you two are the light of his world just like he has told me many times before. It’s going to be an emotional roller coaster for y’all both with ups and downs, but y’all have to stay strong for each other and be there for one another and in the hardest times. Think about the ups on the roller coaster and all the great memories and times y’all had as a family. I’m telling you right now that age is just a number and you two have proved that lately as y’all have been so mature and I honestly think that he is looking down over y’all with a big smile and so proud of you two. If y’all need anything y’all know where I’m at and don’t hesitate to come to me as I will be a shoulder to lean on if and when you need one. I love y’all both and I’m so glad to be able to have met such a wonderful family!

My condolences

Kelly, The Agner’s will miss you dearly. The memories we have of us all camping. Not to mention, making sure your sister in law was NOT driving on bald tires. The best ribs ever and the fish fries, Halloween contest and hay rides at the clubhouse. Jansen holds his trophy dear to his heart, the trophy he won riding Uncle Kelly’s tractor in the tractor pull! Thanks for loving our kids, until we meet again, we love you Kelly.

One of my favorite memories with Kelly is when we were in the back yard, helping him build our happy place.

Thank you for taking us in, thank you for being here when I needed someone to talk to. I know you loved me and my family. I can’t thank you enough for what you have done of us.

We love you
