Larry was born in Memphis, TN in 1948 and grew up in the Hernando and Nesbit areas of Mississippi. He was a Christian and attended Baptist churches throughout his life. He grew up playing sports and was an avid Mississippi State University football fan. He graduated from Hernando High School in 1966 and was president of his senior class. After high school, he attended Mississippi State University and Northwest Community College. He then served a short time in the United States Army Reserves and later went on to become a truck driver. He retired as a truck driver from TCX in 2010 at the age of 62. He enjoyed college and NFL football, NASCAR, and country music. He loved gardening, the beach, and spending time with his family and friends.
Larry was married March 3, 1998, to Janice T. Shelton, who survives, of Cordova, TN.
Along with his wife, he is also survived by step-daughter, Amanda (Christopher) Woode of Olive Branch, MS; step-son, Alex (Megan) Gwaltney of Bartlett, TN; mother, Lois Darby Shelton of Hernando, MS; sister, Debra K. Shelton of Hernando, MS; brother, Wayne (Margie) Shelton of Cantonment, FL; grandchildren, Connor, Calleigh, Brennley, and Samuel. Also survived by three other children from previous marriages.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Alvie “Jack” Shelton of Hernando, MS.
