She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Lee Hawkins. Linda also leaves her legacy with her growing family: her three sons Mark Hawkins (Amy), Kevin Hawkins (Mercedes), and Walter Hawkins (Tonya); her grandchildren Chandler Hawkins (Carleigh), Sara Nesbit (John), Caroline Hawkins, and Christian Hawkins; her great-grandchildren Emmet Nesbit and Heath Hawkins. She also leaves her younger sister, Terri Chandler Draper (Harry).
She is preceded in death by her wonderful parents and sister James Walter Chandler, Mary Louise Chandler and Julia Lawson Pinckley.
Linda was born on June 23, 1947 in Memphis, TN. She attended Treadwell Schools from grades 1-12, where she met her husband Lee, and graduated in 1965.
She then attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis, where she received her degree in 1968 and was recognized as the Salutatorian of her class. She continued her nursing career until she retired in 2004 from the NICU at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Lee and Linda shared their vows on November 23, 1966, which was only the very beginning of their amazing love story — Life’s greatest adventure. Their love was special. One that you’re lucky to witness in a lifetime. Their love was, and is, what built the foundation of our family.
Linda spent her life caring for others and loving her family. She always found joy in the simplest things. She loved flowers, good music, sunshine, a book in her hands, sitting on her back patio with her husband, and spending time with her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
