Lou was born April 15, 1938, in Farmington, Kentucky, the daughter of Hassell and Mary Poyner, one of five children.
Lou moved to Memphis, Tennessee in the late 1950s. On February 19, 1960, she married Ronald E. Dowdle, with whom she had two sons.
Lou is survived by one son, Lee Scott Dowdle of Belgrade, Montana; three siblings, Joe Poyner of Millington, Tennessee, Emma Tarkington of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Hal Poyner of Memphis, Tennessee; along with numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was a member of Macon Road Church of Christ in Memphis for many years until moving into a nursing home as a result of Multiple Sclerosis. Her son Gardner had her transferred Walnut Ridge Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas in 2017 and later to his residence in Imboden, Arkansas where he took excellent care of her until his death.
She was preceded in death by her parents Hassell and Mary Poyner; husband, Ronald Dowdle on January 20, 2017; son, Gardner Boyd Dowdle on July 13, 2022; and brother, Billy Cole Poyner on April 1, 2020.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the home of her brother Joe Poyner, at 6700 Willowbrook, Millington, Tennessee. Her nephew, Barry Poyner from Georgia, will provide a eulogy.
