Lula Christine Westmoreland

Lula Christine Work Westmoreland, 92, was a resident of Memphis, Tennessee. Departed this life due to natural causes on Friday, February 26, 2016. She was born February 12, 1924 at her parents home outside Potts Camp, Marshall County, MS. She was the second of three children born to John Work and Robbie Jamieson Work. She grew up in rural Marshall County an attended Potts Camp High School where she played on the varsity girls basketball team. She left school in 1942, just prior to graduation, and moved to Memphis, TN. She got work at the National Biscuit Company making ammunition crates for the war effort. Upon his return from WWII she married Marvin Wade Westmoreland on November 17, 1945. Two children were born to the union, Sandra Sharon and Ronald Wade. She worked for many years at Parks Belk and upon their closing she went to Goldsmiths/Macy's where she worked till her retirement. She became a member of Underwood Methodist Church in the late 1950's and remained a member till her health and age stopped her attendance. She enjoyed travel, dancing, staying up till the wee hours and sleeping late. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and her daughter. Her largest disappointment was the loss of her husband in 1985 after 39 years of marriage. She never recovered from this loss and the resulting spiral of depression contributed greatly to her death. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Osborne (Lee) of Memphis and son Ronald Westmoreland (Susan) of Memphis, three grandchildren, Matt Osborne, Kathleen Westmoreland Easter and Kimberly Westmoreland Durham, two great-grand sons Jackson Osborne and Luke Osborne and their sister Haylee Hughes-Osborne, two sisters. Agnes Work Gordon, Ina Fay Thornton and one brother JB Work. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters, Jenny Work Ash Mitchell, Jeannette Work Dunning and one brother Allen Work.

She passed this life in her sleep while under the care of Methodist Hospice House in Memphis.
