Lynn Ray Gorman, 80, went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2022. He was born in Des Moines IA, on February 13, 1942, the son of Raymond and Virginia (Foote) Gorman. In 1945 the family moved to Dallas, TX where his brother Tony was born. Lynn graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas and then attended North Texas State University, in Denton TX. He met his future wife, Judy Howard, at NTSU. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Transportation he went into the Air Force as a Reservist and spent 6 years active duty. As he was anxious to get started with his career, he went to work for International Harvester, but soon heard of a job in Miami, FL. He accepted the job there with Ryder Truck Rental Headquarters and eventually became Vice President. In 1995 Fed Ex came calling and Lynn began his job as Vice President of Vehicle Maintenance in Memphis, TN. He had a job he really loved and spent much time traveling to many countries, meeting and negotiating with suppliers. By 2003, Lynn decided to retire, partially because of health reasons. A lake house was purchased soon after and he loved to work to keep it up. He could not stop working! Lynn loved cars and driving was his passion.
Lynn gave his life to the Lord Jesus when he was 12 years old. While living in Miami he taught Sunday School for 5th grade boys for many years at Wayside Baptist Church. From 1993 to 1995 he was chairman of the rebuilding committee after Hurricane Andrew hit our church. After moving to Memphis, Lynn and Judy attended Kirby Woods Baptist Church for years but eventually joined Ridgeway Baptist Church.
Lynn is survived by his wife Judy of 56 years, two daughters; Shannon (Tony) Dorriety, and Shelly Gorman. Grandchildren; Jesse, Ashleigh, Kelly, Presley, Grayson, Caleb, Aaron, Hunter, and Kaylyn. He was known to his grandchildren as a teaser, doing silly tricks and having nickname Moopaw. He will be sadly missed by all.
A visitation for Lynn will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
