Margaret Williams Norsworthy

Margaret Williams Norsworthy passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023, at her home in Bartlett, Tennessee at the age of 89. She was born to the late William and Effie Williams on July 6, 1933, in Memphis, TN. She graduated from Central High School (1950) and received her bachelor’s degree from Memphis State College (1953). She was employed as a secretary at Buckeye until she began her family.

Margaret, or Mauzie, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was an amazing woman with a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. She passionately loved the Lord and was a part of three churches in her lifetime. Her spiritual journey began at Calvary Baptist Church as a child. As an adult, she was a faithful member of Cherokee Baptist, and she finished her years at Ellendale Baptist. After her children were grown, she served as a church secretary at Cherokee. She retired from Second Presbyterian Church in the Caring Office. Through the years, she was a VBS worker, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and XYZ member. Despite being born before the invention of the cordless telephone, Mauzie was an enthusiastic sender and receiver of text messages even up to the end of her life.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 40 years, Ernest Norsworthy, as well as her first husband and the father of her three children, Beverly Ray Owens. She is survived by her three children, Beverly Shackelford (Larry), Bill Owens (Leasa), and Julie Lawson (Jimmy), as well as Ernest’s sons, Ernest Norsworthy, Jr. (Kathy) and Mel Norsworthy. She counted herself blessed to be survived by all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren she and Ernest shared: Ben Shackelford (Ashley), Jacob Shackelford (Amy); Steve Owens (Sarah), Garrett Siler (Tisha), Kyle Owens, Ellen Owens; Joel Lawson (Hyun Ju), Jana Dilg (Joseph), Jared Lawson, Jon Lawson (Alyissa), and Joy Lawson; Lamar Norsworthy (Lauren), Mary Norsworthy, and Tyler Norsworthy (Amber).

A visitation will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Ellendale Baptist Church, 3861 Broadway Road, Bartlett, TN 38135. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM. A committal service will occur Friday, May 19, 2023 from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
