Marshall David Eley was born on December 31, 1940, in Memphis, TN to James Marshall Eley and Evelyn Louise Sharp Eley. He was a resident of Arlington, Tennessee. David married Edith Bernice Eley on September 21, 1962. They were married for 59 years. He passed away at his home on October 23, 2021, at the age of 80. David was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Bernice Dial Eley of Arlington, TN; his daughters, Deborah Joyce Ashcraft Lockwood of Savannah, TN; Rebecca Lynn Ashcraft Robinson and her husband, Jeff, of Baton Rouge, LA; Leslie Lee Eley Lumpkin of Arlington, TN; his sister, Julia Stephanie Eley Hover and her husband, Reed, of Memphis, TN; his grandchildren, Michael Shawn Roberts of Savannah, TN; Jeffery David Edwards and his wife, Habeeb, of Baton Rouge, LA; Lacey Dawn Roberts Thompson and her husband, Clifton, of Savannah, TN; Eley Hunter Lewis of Arlington, TN; Conrad Dane Lewis of Murfreesboro, TN; Madelyn Elise Lumpkin of Arlington, TN; and Jessica Sanders of Dyersburg, TN, along with eight great-grandchildren and many friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wayne Sharp Buchanan; his daughter Kimberly Dawn Little Fagan; and his granddaughter Andrea Michelle Robinson Scott.
He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1959. David had a full life. He cared for and provided for his family. David was taught to hunt and fish by his father, and was a lifelong love of his. His favorite place on earth was the Hatchie River Bottoms. He worked two jobs so his wife, Bernice, could stay home and care for their children. David joined the Memphis Fire Department on October 7, 1963, and worked his last shift as Deputy Chief of the Memphis Fire Department on April 12, 1992. David loved being a fireman and loved the firemen he worked with. David was a member of the Freemasons and accomplished the level of “Scottish Rite.”
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133 ,from 1:00p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow the Funeral service at the facility and the Burial will take place afterwards at Hernando Memorial Park Cemetery, 2805 Magnolia Dr., Hernando, Ms 38632 .
