Mary H. Birkhead

Mary H. Birkhead, 95, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Methodist North Hospital. Mrs. Birkhead was born to Ivan and Lera Holmes in Winona, MS on February 4, 1916. During WWII she worked as a Switchboard Operator in Alexandria, VA. She also worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Company, and for Lindsay Cadillac; all before she relocated to Memphis in 1983. She married Frank C. Birkhead on December 24, 1939. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; three sisters Ruth, Bobbie Lou, and Jane Vaiden; and one brother, Julius McClain “Buddy” Holmes. Surviving Mrs. Birkhead is her daughter, Diana B. Flora; son-in-law, Roy E. Flora; two grandchildren Dana F. DeLisle, and Eddie Flora; and six great-grandchildren, Connor Michael DeLisle, Ashlyn Rae DeLisle, Madelyn Ruth DeLisle, Cathryn Isabella DeLisle, Olivia Nicole Flora, and Jack Edwin Flora. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, on Friday, January 27, 2012. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Memphis Funeral Home Saturday, January 28, 2012. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens (formerly Memory Hill Gardens).
