

Mary Sue Holland Fortune, 89, of Bartlett went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Fortune was born on March 9, 1924 in Memphis to Harvey H. and Nettie Martin Holland. She was a longtime member of Broadway Baptist Church in Southaven, was an active volunteer at Applingwood Nursing Home for 12 years and was chosen as volunteer of the year for the state of Tennessee during that time. Mrs. Fortune was the widow of William R. Fortune, Sr. and leaves her beloved children, three daughters, Charlotte Marchbanks of Toccoa, GA, Nancy Kitchens (Mike) of Lavonia, GA and Phyliss Conley (Steve) of Tuscaloosa, AL; one son, William R. Fortune, Jr. (Fay) of Fairhope, AL; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Friends and family will gather from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, January 5 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. A celebration of Mrs. Fortune’s life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 6 at Broadway Baptist Church in Southaven. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens.
