Mary Ellen Johnston

Mary Ellen Johnston, age 87, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. Mary was born February 12, 1933 in New Albany, Mississippi. She was a longtime member of Leawood Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in many ministries for over 50 years. Mrs. Johnston was a woman of great faith who prayed fervently for her family and friends. She was an avid gardener and shared her flowers with several schools, churches, and homes. In times of trouble or need, her doors were always open to immediate and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Franklin Johnston Jr, her brother, Herbert Brown, and her sister, Hazel Hall. Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Beverly Flippin (Barry), Jenny Payne (Dan), Marc Johnston (Sandy), Dawn Lindsey (David), nine grandchildren, Jill, Kyle, Rebecca, Brooke, Joshua, Adam, Wyatt, Courtney, Emily, eight great grandchildren, Jacob, Grant, Hannah, Brody, Shawn, Eddie, Bryant, and Beckett. She also leaves her five siblings, Houston Brown, Fred Brown, Cherry Ferrara, Bill Brown, and Mitzi Holden.

The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm, on Thursday, December 3, 2020, with a funeral service at 10am, on Friday, December 4, 2020, all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway Bartlett, TN 38133.
