Mary (62) was born March 8th, 1961, in Olean, New York to Robert C. McCurdy and the late Margaret R. (McGowan) McCurdy. Mary was married for 39 years to Christopher M. Syriac and was a resident of Oakland Tennessee. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away on August 21st, 2023.
Mary was a graduate of Craigmont High School and the Memphis Business School. Mary worked in several career fields including as a secretary, retail associate, and a substitute teacher. However, her most important impact was as a loving wife and mother. She loved showcasing her creative side by making crafts such as quilling, personalized greeting cards, poetry, painting, scrapbooking, photography, and gardening. Mary was always excited to travel throughout both the United States and Europe, visiting 23 states and 7 countries. She enjoyed playing Bunco and had a true passion for her two bowling leagues.
Mary is survived by her husband Christopher M. Syriac; son Robert D. Syriac (Annie); daughter Meghan C. Yarbrough (Davis) and grandson Asher; sister Sharon McCurdy and nephew Sean Hannahan (Ericha) and great-niece Kali; sister Pamela Scarbrough (Keith) and nieces Mara Scarbrough and Natalie Scarbrough; brother Mark McCurdy (Carol), niece Caitlin Kelley (William) and nephews Matthew and Jon McCurdy; brother-in-law Daniel Syriac and sister-in-law Noel Syriac.
Mary never met a stranger and always looked for the good in people. A legacy we all hope to carry onward.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Mary to be held on Friday, September 1st, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 11710 US-64, Somerville, TN 38068, followed by a funeral Mass from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
