Mary JoAnn (Sweeney) Wheeler went to be with her Lord October 18, 2024. She was born November 25, 1940 in Memphis,TN. She lived 83 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ruby Sweeney and her daughter Karen Wheeler Hulsey.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tommy Joe Wheeler, her 2 sons, Mike (Renee") Wheeler of Arlington, TN and Colby (Gaye Lynn) Wheeler of Noble, Oklahoma.
She also leaves behind 1 sister, Melba (Charlie) Pearce of Bartlett, TN., and 1 brother, Ronnie (Amy) of Guild, TN. She was blessed to have 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
More than anything JoAnn LOVED JESUS. She loved her "Nanny". Her mom was humbly taken care of by her loving JoAnn. JoAnn has a caregiving soul. She loved to take care of others.
She loved her Memphis State Basketball, needle-point (with her mom), writing poetry, studying the Word of God, serving at her church alongside her husband Joe in the younger years. Later, they like to travel and share retirement life. At different times they would take grandkids on trips.
JoAnn's first job was at Threadgill's Pharmacy, boasting that often Johnny Cash came in and bought cigarettes from her. Then she went to work at Sears Crosstown, then was secretary with Rose Hill Baptist Church for many years ( the Bostick years) then transferring to Rose Hill Christian Academy. Then she went to work at Plant Maintenance and worked their until her retirement.

JoAnn loved all of you. She knew she was loved, blessed and full of grace and mercy. She would want you to know Jesus and if you don't, please, ask someone like JoAnn.
A visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. Her funeral service will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. Graveside services will follow immediately after also at, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
