Maxey Conyers Spence of Lakeland, TN was born on June 23, 1933, in Henderson, Tennessee. He was lovingly known as “Bubba” to those closest to him. He passed away on March 18, 2026, at the age of 92. Maxey attended The University of Tennessee and would later on go to pursue and achieve his Real Estate License.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Madelyn Spence; his brothers, Bill J. Spence and Wayne Spence; and his brother-in-law, Dave Bardin.
Maxey leaves behind his devoted wife of 69 years, Faye Magers Spence, whose love and companionship were the foundation of his life. He is also survived by his children, David (Yunyu) Spence and Selina Cisco; his cherished grandchildren, Jonathan (Laura) Cisco, Natalie (Zach) Simpson, William Spence, and Mary Spence; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Mason Simpson, Elle Cisco, and Ezra Cisco. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Doris Spence and Sarah Bardin, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Maxey was a man of simple joys and deep connections. He loved riding horses and could often be seen enjoying time on his John Deere lawn mower. His garage —fondly known as his “man cave”—was a special place where he spent countless hours building bluebird houses and working with his hands.
He had a special love for his animals, especially his dogs and chickens, and found happiness in the quiet rhythms of country life. Maxey never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.
He enjoyed watching classic Westerns, especially those starring Clint Eastwood, and listening to music by Elvis Presley and Whitney Houston. He also delighted in life’s simple pleasures, including Faye’s homemade coconut cream pie.
Above all, Maxey loved the Lord and lived his life guided by faith, kindness, and generosity. He was a faithful member of Fisherville Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
