Morris Edison Thompson, 91, beloved husband of Reba Thompson and father of Karen Patterson (Robert) of Batesville, Mississippi, Kevin Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee, and Keith Thompson (Elaina) of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 14, 2026. He was born on August 11, 1935, in Hornsby, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Davis Thompson; his parents, Walter and Ambrosia Thompson; and his sisters, Linda Thompson and Joyce Thompson Ferguson. Morris is survived by his sisters Barbara Smith, Dale Ingram, and Jo Lynn Davis (Rhesa); his brothers, J.W. Thompson of Huntsville, Alabama and Woodie Thompson (Carol) of Summerville, South Carolina; Reba’s son, Dustin Lough (Jeanne) of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jake Patterson (Delisha), Shelby Patterson, Kasey Patterson, Brett Thompson, and Kayla Rice (Grant); great-grandchildren, Harper Rice and Renny Lacey; and many nieces and nephews.
An Army veteran, Morris was a successful salesman and an avid tennis player. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always saw the best in others and in life. To know him was to love him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will take place at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, US, on August 26, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a catered reception at 11:00 am at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
