Pat attended high school in Elmira, New York. Her senior year the family moved, and Pat graduated high school in Tampa, Florida. She attended Florida State University where she met and married Jan Duggar after graduation in 1962. Both joined the Peace Corp training at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, before a two-year service as teacher of English in Asmara, Ethiopia (now Eritrea). They both returned to the United States to attend graduate school at Florida State University. Pat earned an MA in Foreign Language Education, then taught French at Indian River Junior College in Fort Pierce, Florida while husband, Jan, completed his PhD dissertation. Afterwards, they moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she raised a family while pursuing her knowledge of French. Pat returned to graduate school at Louisiana State University and earned an MA in French Literature with a minor in German (1978). She taught French at Robert E. Lee High School in Baton Rouge for 4 years and returned to earn her Education Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction, Gifted Education in French under Dr. Robert Lafayette. In 1991 they moved to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana where she taught French in the Gifted Program at Paul Breaux Middle School in Lafayette for 7 years. In 1998, Pat moved with her husband to Issaquah, Washington. After a divorce in 2000, Pat moved to Memphis where she taught French at the University of Memphis and later at Bishop Byrne High School. There she ran the yearbook and additional taught Spanish after studying at the University of Memphis and a Spanish immersion study in Costa Rica. Upon retirement in 2006, Pat continued her love of education through volunteer work at the Orpheum, Pink Palace, Brooks Museum, teaching ESL classes, and through church activities. Her prayer life was devoted to Our Lady of Fatima and Medjugorje for the salvation of souls. Praise be to God!
Pat Duggar was born on November 28, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi. She passed January 24, 2023, at the Ave Maria Home in Bartlett, Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Nina Margaret Witt Reidy and Thomas Patrick Reidy, Sr., her sister, Kathleen Reidy Olsen, and granddaughter, Jessica Jane King.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas Patrick Reidy, Jr., her sons, David Duggar of Bossier City, LA and Chris Duggar of Fort Collins, CO, her daughter, Patricia King of Collierville, Tennessee, grandsons, Gavin King and Gage King, and granddaughters, Alexandra King, Ashton King Bellott, Enna Duggar, Kiera King, and Laila Duggar.
A memorial service for Nina will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
