Nola was born in Selmer, Tennessee on October 14, 1946, one of nine children born to the late Extra Amos & Rosa Goodrum Borden. She graduated from Selmer High School in 1964, and moved Memphis where she spent her career with the Shelby County Sheriff's' office until she retired.
Along with her parents Nola Jean was preceded in death by her husband Carlton "Gene" Mendenhall, brother Paul, sisters Arvine, and Loraine; longtime friend Larry Price, and step-daughter Carla Johnston.
Her memory lives on through her brothers Jake "J.C." Borden and Lynus Borden, sisters Mary Ruth Halda, Elsie Horsman, and Marie Hogan; an aunt to many nieces and nephews; and step-children Ronnie Mendenhall and Teresa Padgitt.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, August 22 from one o'clock in the afternoon until funeral services begin at two o'clock all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN 38133.
