Patrick was real life Calvin and Hobbs. He was both Calvin and Hobbs which made for an interesting adventure every time. A nuts and bolts kind of man who never settled at finding out how things worked; he wanted to find ways to help it work better, bigger and more exciting if possible. His love of woodworking was present whether building his dream two-story wood shop, aptly named “Ye Ol Sawmill” or his near life size nativity decorations that were famous in his neighborhood as the wise men and Holy Family traveled down his residential street until completing their journey in his front yard on Christmas morning and the Epiphany.
Pat was a member of the Church of the Nativity who had a natural inclination for helping others and walking in Christ’s light while serving his community, working the food kitchen at St. Vincent DePaul, or teaching his grandchildren his zest for life. He found great joy in having ice cream socials, taco socials, drink socials, really any type of social to meet and mingle with others, create relationships, friendships and compatriots.
Pat moved to Memphis in 1986 and began his career with Baptist Memorial Hospital as an Energy Management Engineer. He was the final employee working at the downtown hospital and readied the building for its implosion and demolition. His transfer to Baptist Women’s Hospital led him to eventually become an employee of CBRE. His love for people and his work ethic was a recipe for connection with his colleagues.
He was an alchemist with fire (he liked sending home-made rockets high into the sky - sorry neighbors if any of the 2 liter rockets he built with his grandkids landed in your yard), loved building and flying RC airplanes, working puzzles, sharing riddles, building model planes and spending time swinging his sweetheart round and round at square dances.
Pat is survived by his wife of 13 years Jean Marie Geoghegan of Cordova, TN and his four-legged buddy, Rita; his daughter Teresa Helen Geoghegan Brown (Mike), his grandchildren Abigail and Dylan Brown of Memphis TN; his stepdaughter Kimberly Jean Payne (Stephen), IN; his father William Claude Geoghegan (100) of Elizabethtown, KY; his sister Mary Cron (Russ) WA; and his four brothers Mike, KY; Tom, CA; Charlie (Edna), SC; and John (Lillian), KY.
Pat lived with a spark of humor, kindness, a twinkle in his eye and deep love of God. He lived his life fully with a childlike wonder and curiosity. He let his Christ Light shine to all he met and was truly a blessing to this world.
