Robert “Bob” McKenzie Jinkins, 77, passed away on September 7, 2026. Born on November 19, 1948, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Bob was the youngest of five children born to Mary Parks Bratton Jinkins and James Mosley Jinkins Sr.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, James Mosley Jinkins Jr., John Thomas Bratton Jinkins, and William Draper Jinkins. He is survived by his sister, Mary Laura Koella, as well as his nieces and nephews and other members of his extended family.
From a young age, Bob demonstrated a natural talent for building, understanding, and modifying electronics. His curiosity and technical ability eventually led him to the University of Tennessee, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to pursue a career in engineering and later in computer software engineering. Bob served as the lead for multiple complex projects and found genuine satisfaction in solving problems and helping others. Towards the end of his career, Bob was involved in developing software that he later felt was misleading to users. He came to regret his involvement, and consistent with his strong sense of integrity, the project ultimately led to an early retirement and him declaring that he would not use computers for any purpose.
Bob had many interests and talents beyond his professional life. He was an avid and skilled skier and shared his knowledge and passion for the sport as a ski instructor. He enjoyed riding his Segway, approaching it with his characteristic attention to safety. He had a deep appreciation for art and antiques and enjoyed visiting museums throughout the country. Additionally, Bob was highly involved in his church choir, where he not only sang but often collaborated with others to arrange music.
Bob cared deeply for his family and friends and was known for his kindness and generosity toward those he loved. His intelligence, curiosity, willingness to help others, and the many interests he pursued throughout his life made Bob truly unique.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched.
Memorial Services for Bob will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 11:00am, Independent Presbyterian Church, 4738 Walnut Grove Road, Memphis, TN 38117.
