Robert "Bob" Vierkandt, 85, of Arlington, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin went to be with Jesus on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital. Bob retired after twenty years of service in the United States Marines and then again from Civil Service. Bob Vierkandt enjoyed 53 years of marriage to Joanne Livingston Vierkandt, during which they traveled to all 50 states. After her death, he was blessed to fall in love with Virginia McCurley and spend another 9 years sharing adventure after adventure. Bob has left a powerful legacy for generations to come. He believed in God, Family, and Country, and was devoted to all three. Bob was a member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Arlington Garden Club, The Memphis Area Master Gardeners, The American Legion, and The Shriners, and was an active member of his community. Until he turned 80 he drove children to the Shriners Hospitals across the nation. Visitation will be Monday evening, March 8th from 5-7pm, at Memphis Funeral Home on Germantown Road. The funeral service will be held at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Chimney Rock Blvd. at 10am on March 9th. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Vierkandt, a son, Richard Vierkandt and daughter-in-law, Susan Vierkandt, a daughter, Luanne Pyron, and son-in-law Roger Pyron: grandsons Tim and Sean Vierkandt, Tim’s wife Laura Vierkandt; Daniel and Jon Erickson; Their wives Chelsea and Cyndra, Rob Erickson, Josh, Zach, and Ben Pyron; three great-grandchildren, Lily, Reagan and Colin Vierkandt; a sister, Nancy Petsch and her husband Harold, numerous nieces and nephews, his step children Julie and Tom Turnmire, Mary McCurley Smith, and their children and grandchildren; Nicholas and Emily Smith and their son Ian, Austin Smith, Natalie Kay and J.D. Mason, Audrey and Jon Campbell and their children Riley and Trace, and Tucker Turnmire and his fiancé Morgan Miller. The family would like to express special appreciation to the staff at Methodist LeBonheur Hospital for their compassion and care. Bob has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Shriners Hospitals would be appreciated.
