Robert E. Williams, Jr., born November 10, 1924, died October 15, 2012. He was a graduate of Cherry Valley (AR) High School and attended Memphis State University. He served in the Merchant Marines and traveled the world, later serving in the U. S. Army. Mr. Williams retired from International Harvester after 33 years and was active in Cotton Carnival Memphis and served as chairman and King of Sphinx. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and gourmet griller and he loved his garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie Jordan Williams and Robert E. Williams, Sr., and siblings, Ruby Ballard and Gerald Williams. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty DeLaney Williams; daughters, Kathleen E. Abbruscato and Margaret W. Smidt (Terry); grandchildren, Bryan S. Poole, Mimi M. Tatum (Chris) and Ronald E. Poe, Jr., two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial to follow in Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Bartlett. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Germantown Rd. Memphis Funeral Home And Memorial Gardens 3700 N.
