Roberta Susanna Wilson was born on October 4, 1941, in Kelowna, British Columbia to parents Lillian Eva (nee Cherrier) and Robert William Wilson. In the early days she grew up on a small farm along with her older brother Thomas “Tommy” where she cared for a variety of animals, memories of which always remained fond to her. Later, Roberta attended University in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she received her degree in nursing. Roberta moved to the United States to work as a nurse, first in California where she specialized in burn care treatment and collaborated with specialist doctors to write a medical textbook on the subject. Later, her passion shifted to pediatric nursing where she worked in Oklahoma and eventually Memphis at Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown. She also worked at Southwest Tennessee Community College where she was able to share her experiences with the next generation of medical care professionals.
In 1982 she married David Charles Carpenter in Oklahoma City and the pair spent 20 years together until his sudden passing in 2002.
In her personal life she pursued hobbies like knitting and crochet and was an excellent seamstress. She loved gardening and more often than not could be found in her back yard tending to the plants and flowers. She continued her love of animals and had many furry friends over the years including most recently, her service dog Kep-Shadow. The Church was also an important part of Roberta’s life and she regularly attended Memphis Tennessee North Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Thank you to all in the community who would bring her on Sunday mornings in her later years when she was no longer able to drive.
