Roy Quay Blackard was born, March 4, 1931 in Union County Mississippi. The 11th child of William R. & Lavada Ida Pearl Williams Blackard. He was married to Louise Unruh Blackard for 68 years, 7 months when he passed on June 7, 2022 at Christian Care Center of Bolivar, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
He was raised in Union County Mississippi & Dyess, Arkansas. He graduated from Pinedale High School in 1951 and served in the United States Navy (1951 -1955). While in the Navy he served on the USS Hornet, USS Bennington, USS Tarawa, USS Randolph, and the USS Lake Champlain.
Roy retired from Dupont Chemical Memphis Plant, in 1989 after 37 years of service as a control room operator. He was ordained a deacon of the Baptist Church in 1967.
In addition to his wife Louise, he leaves two daughters – Toni Lynn Cochran (Travis); Pamela Jean Watson (Gordon). Three grandsons – Jake Avery (Augusta), Jared Blackard (Pryanka), Matt Cochran (Melissa). One great-grandson, Nathaniel Avery and one great-granddaughter (Meera Unruh Blackard).
