April 19th 1947 - August 12th 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Stanfill, a loving father, devoted husband, and cherished grandfather. He left behind a legacy of love, laughter, wisdom, and cherished memories.
Born on April 19, 1947, Roy, “Butch”, or “Big Daddy” as he was known to many, led a life filled with dedication to his friends, faith, and family, as well as his craftsmanship which he selflessly used to help others. After his devoted service in the Vietnam war, he worked many skilled trades, then followed in his father’s footsteps working for MLGW in the engineering department for almost two decades.
As a father, Roy had a loving, kind, generous spirit. His smile and his laugh always lit up the room and he wasn’t afraid to be his authentic “silly”self. In his role as a husband, Roy shared a deep and abiding bond with his spouse, Linda. Together, they enjoyed traveling, golfing, hosting their annual Christmas party to benefit various local charities, and of course Starbucks! They also loved being at home together, savoring each other’s company in their sunroom that they built together. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Big Daddy was also a beloved grandfather, known for being gracious with his time, his hilarious birthday cards, and showing his support for each grandchild in their athletic and academic pursuits. His stories, laughter, and warmth enriched their lives and created lasting memories.
Outside of his family roles, Roy was an active member of his community. He and Linda were faithful members of Hope Presbyterian Church, dutiful volunteers in the Scrubs Ministry, and a leading philanthropist for Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center. His impact on the lives of those around him will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
Roy Stanfill was proceeded in death by parents R.D. and Miriam Stanfill, and his sister Jean Stanfill.
He is survived by his wife Linda Stanfill, three children: Stephanie (Robert) Shearin, Brad (Dani) Stanfill, and Lauren (Matt) Jones, and Five grandchildren: Angelina, Rachael, Connor, Walker, and Ava Grace and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Roy's life will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 2:00pm located at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens. 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN 38133. The visitation is at 1:00pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Roy’s memory to Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center; 1961 South Houston Levee Road Collierville, TN 38017.
As we reflect on the life of Roy, may we find solace in the memories we shared and the love he gave us. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” - John 14:1-2 (NIV)
