Born on May 25, 1951 to Clyde Clifton and Leona McNair Burden, her loving parents. She leaves her beloved Charles J. Hatten married for over 56 years who loved her unconditionally. Charles made her strong when she was weak, made her laugh when she cried, and guided her ever so gently back to her first love, God. Charles and Ruby were married in Eudora Baptist Church. She gave her life to Christ when she was 9 years old at Boulevard Baptist Church where she fondly remembered visiting shut-ins with her mother. Ruby taught Sunday school when she moved her membership to Ridgeway Baptist Church. Charles and Ruby moved to Hernando, MS and joined Parkway Baptist Church where she found her spiritual gift of “showing Mercy” by writing and sending special tracts, crocheted crosses and bible bookmarks to “her” shut ins. She always added (in “God” we Trust) on the back of every envelope to encourage each person who handled cards to ultimately put all their trust in GOD. Ruby was blessed many times over when one of her shut ins went to be with the Lord and a family member would ask if they could keep her cards to remember her words of inspiration to their loved ones. Those times, she realized the seed of Christ was planted in their hearts too.
President of Hatten Enterprises, a hospitality database company for 22 years. She often baked her soft moist chocolate chip cookies, shipped them to her clients, carried them to her friends and delivered them to grieving families. She also was employed by Holiday Inns, Inc. Corporate Offices for over 10 years.
Ruby is survived by her precious granddaughter Emily Gail Hatten, who she taught how to spend time with God by reading daily devotionals and scriptures. Her only son Charles Clifton Hatten (Kathy) and grandsons Trevor and Cody Sweet. She leaves four older sister, Patricia Ann Burden Boyd, Jane Ellen Burden Gregory (Johnny), Linda Sue Burden Harris, and Mary Clydell Burden Thweatt (Ronald). Boulevard Baptist Church members fondly remembered them as the “Burden Girls”
