Russell Farrell Calame of Arlington, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the age of 54.
Russell was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to Charlotte Hatch Calame and the late John Barton Calame. He grew up in Collierville, Tennessee, and attended Christian Brothers High School. At Middle Tennessee State University, he earned his bachelor's degree. Later he earned a master's degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands before becoming a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Tennessee.
An entrepreneur throughout much of his career, Russell co-founded C&C Outdoors, an early online retail business based in San Diego, California. He was later instrumental in the launch and growth of Compass Dermatopathology, where he served as Client Relations Manager for 16 years. Most recently, Russell founded Peak Mind Mental Health, his own counseling practice. He was passionate in his commitment to helping others through his work as a professional counselor.
Russell had a lifelong sense of adventure and love of the outdoors and music. He became a private pilot as a young man, was an avid sailor, mountaineer, reader, sportsman and disc golfer as well as being a talented guitarist. Russell was endearing to all he crossed paths with, as a natural extrovert who had the ability to pull the best out of anyone he met. His kind and outgoing nature left impressions on all who were lucky enough to know him.
Russell was a bright light in this world and truly cared about his family, friends, and even those he had just encountered. His temperament was kind and compassionate, he had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke. Above all, Russell was an exemplary Father and Husband, he was loving, kind and patient, His family meant everything to him.
Russell is survived by his wife, Rachel Estes Calame, of twenty years, and their three children, Sophie, Sydney, and Carter Calame. He is also survived by his mother, Charlotte Hatch Calame; his brother, John Barton Calame, Jr. (Ella); his sister, Catherine Calame Botto (Brian); his mother-in-law, Cynthia Stretz (Larry); his father-in-law, Jim Estes (Vicki); and his brothers-in-law, Curtis Stretz (Tina); Jonathan Hoffman (Lucy); and Jay Estes (Julie).
He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Izabelle Stretz, Sadie Stretz, Matthew Botto, Gregory Calame, Laci Stretz, Anna Cate Botto, Jude Estes, Austin Estes, Soraya Hoffman & Madelyn Estes, as well as many other family members and close friends.
A celebration of Russell's life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens: 3700 N. Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133.
