Sam Douglas Wiley Sr.

February 18, 1942 – July 29, 2026
Obituary of Sam Douglas Wiley Sr.
IN THE CARE OF

Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens

Rev. Sam Wiley, Sr. was born on February 18, 1942 in Milan Tennessee and departed to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 29,2026 at the age of 84. There will be a memorial service at Crossroads Baptist Church, 125 S Houston Levee Rd., Eads, Tennessee on Saturday, August 8, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:30 followed by the memorial service.

Sam was a graduate of Milan High School. He then attended Memphis State University where he met and married the love of his life, Carol Ann Gee. After graduation he began a successful career with M&M Mars. Sam and Carol were raising their two young sons, Marcus and Doug, when his life took a dramatic turn when he received Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior. In an act of faith, he left his position with M&M Mars to attend Mid-America Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1982.

Following his ordination, he served many years as the Pastor to Singles and Minister of Discipleship at Central Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Sam had the heart of an evangelist and a deep desire to minister to the singles he served. He was also dedicated to see as many people as possible grow into committed disciples of Christ. After his retirement he and Carol joined and served faithfully at Crossroads Baptist Church.

Sam was preceded in death by Carol, his wife of 58 years, his parents, Sam and Essie Wiley, and his sisters, June and Regina. He leaves his sons, Marcus Wiley (Kim) and Doug Wiley (Pam), his two granddaughters Cayla Ann Smothers (Sam) and Cari Barefoot (Dalton), and three great grandchildren, Brinley Rose Barefoot, Luke Travis Smothers, and Ellie Wren Barefoot.
