Sandra was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, family member, and friend. She was deeply devoted to her family and leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to be cherished by everyone who knew and loved her.
She married the love of her life, Raymond Holmes, when she was just 19 years old. They went on to share more than 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2023. Their love story was something truly special and something everyone around them could see. The love, devotion, and companionship they shared throughout their lives together was beautiful, and their marriage remained an example of lasting love to their family. Together, Sandra and Raymond built a family that meant everything to them.
Sandra is preceded in death by her loving husband Raymond and daughter Shannon McFarland. She is survived by her sons, George Holmes (Lisa) and Wes Holmes (Susan).
She was also the proud grandmother to Nick Holmes (Jodie), Chase Holmes (Paige), Chad Holmes (Katelin), Valerie Ewing (Richard), Patrick Ray (Amiee), and Makenzie McFarland. Additionally, she had 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her family was an important part of her life, and the memories they made together will be treasured for years to come.
She was an avid reader, loved to travel and was quite the tennis player in her earlier years.
Anyone who knew Sandra knew she had an unforgettable sense of humor. She was hilarious, sarcastic, quick-witted, and always knew how to make people laugh. She had a personality that was completely her own, and even an ordinary conversation with her could turn into something memorable. Her humor, honesty, and quick comebacks were part of what made her so loved.
Sandra loved being surrounded by the people she cared about, and so many of the memories her family will hold onto are found in the everyday moments—the conversations, laughter, stories, and time spent together.
She will be remembered for the love she gave, the laughter she brought into the lives of those around her, and the unforgettable personality that made her simply Sandra. Her family will miss her jokes, her sarcasm, her quick wit, and the comfort of having her there.
Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday October 2nd at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd., Bartlett, TN. Her celebration of life will follow at 6:00pm
