As every Hardy knows, washing feet is an act of servitude...(we come from a long line of foot washing Baptists)  When I was a child and stayed with Aunt Connie, we would always end up with a spray bottle full of water for me to wash her feet... Our little game to kill time and have fun.. Our little joke! She even referenced it at my rehearsal dinner and brought down the house by bringing a squirt bottle to  remind  me that I would never be too "grown up" to be her "Wittle" foot washing buddy! Who knew that at the end of her life, I would have the privilege of serving her in a real care-giving capacity. (Guess God was preparing us early). Aunt Connie, David, Beth- serving her was my good pleasure, my blessing.Thanks for letting me be the one. I will miss her every day.

Dear. David and Beth -  I lived with your Mom and you David in the 60's in what turned out to be a haunted duplex. Gregory Edmaiston , John's son is my boy. Your mother and her whole family helped me through a very difficult time. Your Mom was an angel., and I know she will be missed. I'll keep you all in my prayers. I'd love to hear from all of you. I spent many hours at the Hardy house, there were always a million things going on with the sisters and their friends. I loved talking to Saundra, she always was willing to talk with us younger girls and always told us straight up what to do. She was a good daughter, sister and mother.

So many years-so many memories-not enough words to express my feelings. Without your precious influence, support, and love I would not be the person I am today.  I have watched David and Beth grow into a beautiful testimony of your love, kindness, and beauty.  You will always be in my heart. Dear David and Beth,

All through the night last night I kept seeing a kaleidoscope of images from the 55+ years your mom and I knew and loved one another. I woke myself up laughing twice. I've waked up laughing a few times before in my life, but never twice in one night. I take this as evidence that your mom is alive and well and thriving in spiritual form.

I thought the funeral was a reflection of her: warm, welcoming and joyful. It even proved to have that Saundra magic where the whole pulls together and flows in a way that transcends the individual parts and you look around and think, "How'd she do that?" only this time it's "How'd they do that? I believe you two have captured the magic and I know that makes her happy.
The giant pictures were wonderful. There she was - a larger than life presence in the room - as ever. I suspect I was not the only one who could hear her laughter in my head and feel it in my heart when I looked at some of those pictures and watched the slide show.
Take care of one another - as I know you already do. She's watching out for you.

Beautiful service for a wonderful lady today. Saundra gave me hope and strength when I was going through a bad time. She gave me work when I had none and advice when I seemed to know nothing. She stood by me when I felt I couldn't stand at all. For a few years you were the one that made me keep my head up. It broke my heart to hear you had left but I know you are so happy now to be in heaven. You touched so many in so many ways. You will be missed. I am so sorry for everyones loss, I only got to know Ms. Saundra for one week, but it is a week I will never forget. Her smile and personality was infectious and her spirit was a delight to be in the presence of. I will never forget your kindness Ms. Saundra. All my prayers to you and your family.

Our dear Saundra passed from this life into her beautiful eternity a few days ago. She was blessed to be surrounded by her beloved gospel music, an anointed hospice staff, and a family who adores her. The joy and hospitality she shared with all who knew her will be greatly missed, but we holdfast to the surety of her salvation and her joyful reunion with her heavenly family! How can we who love(d) her ever begin to say "Goodbye" to her precious person. I know that she left her unmistakable mark on all of us and anyone who knew her or ever met her.
The Bible tells us in Psalms that" The Memory of the just is blest". What a blessed Woman was our beloved Saundra. She free from her pain and has gone to join that "great cloud of Witnesses " mentioned in Hebrews.
I have always found these words from St. Augustine to have much meaning for me when I have suffered a loss.
"Let us sing alleluia here on earth,while we still live in anxiety, so that we may sing it one day in Heaven in full security.We shall have no enemies in Heaven, we shall never lose a friend or loved one.God's praises are sung both there and here, but here they are sung in anxiety, there in security;here they are sung by those destined to die,there,by those destined to live forever;here they are sung in hope,there in hopes fulfillment,here they are sung by wayfarers,there, by those in their own country".

And those who love and know Saundra know she loved to sing! So we rejoice to know that she is in our Heavenly future...and I can hardly wait to see her sweet face again.
