

Sherron Cox Barker, 70, of Collierville, homemaker and former Shelby County School teacher, died of a subdural hematoma Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Visitation will begin Friday at 12:30 PM, with services to follow at 2:00 PM , at Bellevue Baptist Church Pollard Chapel and burial at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens-Bartlett. Sherron was born in Memphis on February 14, 1945 to John Wesley Cox, and Carolyn Huntzicker Cox. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church. Sherron graduated from Memphis State University, where she earned a BS in Zoology, and from Bartlett High School, where she later returned as a math teacher. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ernest George Barker; two daughters, Ms. Brenda Elizabeth Barker Smith and Mrs. Jill Barker Baird, both of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren, Alexander Curtis Smith, Alaina Grace Baird, and Angela Caroline Baird; and a sister, Judith Cox Knapp of Charleston, SC. She is also predeceased by a brother, John Wesley Cox, Jr. The family requests that any donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
