She left Tokinoshima at 17 and travelled to Okinowa, Japan where she met William Brogdon. They were married March 26, 1962 in the American Consulate. They travelled to the US that same year. She would have a total of 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Shinobu continued her education here in the US, which was interrupted in Japan due to WWII.
She received her cosmetology license and worked for many years doing hair for many loyal customers that would travel long distances to have only her fix their hair.
Shinobu was also very artistic and enjoyed singing, music, drawing, painting, and multiple other crafts.
Her greatest joy in life, however, was her family. She devoted so much of her time and energy to her children and grandchildren and was always an unwavering, loving presence in all of our lives. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
