With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steve Kellis on July 13, 2026, after a sudden battle with an aggressive cancer. Steve passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving son. Born on January 5, 1957, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Steve was the cherished son of the late Donald and Lois Kellis.
Steve was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jodi, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Steve was the proud father of two children: his son, Stephen, who is engaged to Perry Peterson, and his daughter, Sarah, who is married to Yuuya Yamaguchi. He found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Leynne Yamaguchi, who brought light into his life.
A dedicated patriot, Steve served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy. After his service, he channeled his passion for technology into a successful career at the Wall Street Journal, working as a computer engineer for over two decades before retiring in 2012. He then spent 10 years, over 5,000 hours, volunteering with the National Wildlife Refuge system, dedicating his time to betterment of animal habitat.
Steve was a man of varied interests and boundless enthusiasm. His devotion to the Boston Red Sox was unwavering, even through the team's toughest seasons. He found solace and joy in the great outdoors, whether it was through his love of golf or exploring nature. Traveling was a shared passion with Jodi, and together they embarked on many adventures. Above all, Steve's greatest love was his children, whom he adored beyond measure.
Steve will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor that could make anyone smile. He had a profound love for animals, a trait that endeared him to many.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate nurses at St Francis, Bartlett, and the hospice staff from Crossroads, whose kindness and support provided comfort during this difficult time.
In accordance with his wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor Steve's life.
The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Memphis Zoo, an organization that held a special place in Steve's heart.
Steve's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family and friends.
A service will be held at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at a date to be announced.
