On New Year’s Eve, 2025, the heart that he shared so freely stopped beating.
Steven Henry Nathan, the only child of Emanuel Morton Nathan and Marilyn Linde Nathan, was born on April 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in Syosset, Long Island, N.Y., before he enrolled at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. He majored in history and graduated in 1968 with a B.A. degree.
In his junior year, he met the love of his life, Kathleen Feane. But keeping a promise that he made to her father upon their engagement, he waited until she graduated, and they married on June 28, 1970.
On May 6, 1971, they became the proud parents of their only child, Darren. Happily, Darren and his wife Beverly blessed them with their truly adored grandchildren — Abby, Rachel, and Alex — in succession.
Steve spent most of his working years as a giftware and electronics sales representative on Long Island and later in New Jersey while Kathy served different school systems as a teacher and learning consultant. Together, their careers reflected a shared commitment to providing for their family and building a stable, supportive home.
In 2010, they agreed to Darren’s suggestion of retirement and they joined the family in Tennessee.
Steve was a lover of family, history, sports, politics, chess, and crossword puzzles. He and Kathy enjoyed travel together to several states, Bermuda, Canada, Cancun, and two visits to Europe, including a surprise second honeymoon he arranged to Denmark. He also arranged a surprise renewal of their marriage vows at a chapel in Las Vegas.
In addition to immediate family, he leaves his sisters-in-law, Gloria Richards (Howard) and Lynne Wiliczka (Peter), and brothers-in-law James Feane, David Feane (Sandra), Thomas Feane (Cynthia), and Mark Feane (Donna), as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law Robert and Joanna Feane, and his brother-in-law, Robbie Feane.
A memorial gathing for family and friends will be held from 10:30AM – 12:30PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Memphis Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens located at 3700 N Germantown Road in Bartlett, TN. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Harwood Center Inc. in his memory.
His memory will be cherished forever.
